Returning to the workforce

Returning to the workforce

Returning to the workforce after having a baby is a personal journey that differs for each woman. There are always a number of facets to consider;  the emotional burden of leaving your baby compounded by the financial burden of needing the money. More often than not the role that women go back into has changed, so they are faced with a loss of identity and a worry that their career is no longer in their control.

This worry, self doubt and feeling of failure can cause a confidence dent. A woman’s whole life can be turned upside down and it can become difficult to find a harmonious balance between family life, career, financial security and self-fulfilment.

What are the solutions?

For those who are currently in this situation, it is important to ask yourself these questions. What do I want? How much time can I work? Do I want to work full-time or part-time? Do I want to work for myself or someone else? Which companies do I want to work for? What does my support network look like?

Navigating your way through the journey

By having a plan in place, or a roadmap, it means you are taking control by putting the right tools in place to steer you in the right direction.

My advice to all women is to stay relevant; keep your skills current and be abreast of what is going on in your industry. You don’t go on a holiday without planning it; you don’t start a meal without some intent on how you want it to look; and you don’t build a house without having a house plan. So why do we think we can have a baby and get back into the workforce and everything will come up trumps?

At Tallest Poppies we provide one-on-one life coaching support and mentoring for women returning to the workforce. This includes women who have come back and  find their role has changed, or women who have left their career to support their children and are finding it difficult to get re-employed and continue their career.

Women’s business

Having a baby can cause a raft of different emotions for women. Your self-esteem and self -confidence can be shaken, your hormones are going crazy, you feel guilty for leaving your child at daycare or with a family member or friend, and your expectations have changed. No one is ever really prepared to understand what the effect will be on their family, finances and future business goals. Financially and emotionally, it’s an extra weight to negotiate and move around, but with the right road map and plan in place and the proper support systems around you, it will make the transitional period much smoother. Tallest Poppies offers competence and confidence to sail forward with self-assurance and give it your best go.

Tallest Poppies is business management; it’s about sitting down and understanding who you are, what you want and how you can achieve it. It is about mapping, organising and offering tools to give your life structure; forming friendships and networks with other women who are going through similar life changes and getting life coaching, advice and support.
